This vulnerability could allow an authenticated threat actor to gain root access on the underlying body management controller. Today we are releasing details of CVE-2024-20356, a high severity Command Injection vulnerability affecting a range of Cisco products. This was discovered by LRQA Nettitude's Aaron Thacker. CIMC is a management system developed by Cisco, used in a range of their server products. It not only controls the server but allows remote management through a web interface. Command injection was discovered within this interface, allowing an authenticated threat actor to gain root access on the underlying body management controller. This vulnerability can be used in a larger attack chain to compromise the Secure Boot configuration and run unauthorised software (in this instance, DOOM) on a Cisco Email Security Appliance.
